I rarely post on BrisbaneForums, and this is the reason why:
I'd say about 75% of ALL threads that start off normal are either:
A: Jacked by people who are OBVIOUSLY 14 years old, with no sense of logic or maturity of any kind.
B: Spun off into a full out flame war
This board has it's fair share of intelligent people, but how can that intelligence shine when it's drowned out by constant bickering and utterly immature thread-jacking?
How many times do you have to say "Oh XXXX you are so gay" or "XXXXX your mama is a **********" before it STOPS being funny? How many times do we have to see an intelligent conversation burn up because some guy comes in and adds some kind of retarded statement like "hahaha you will burn in hell"?
There are at least 2 sides to every argument, and there is no statement on earth that will go unchallenged. Debate is HEALTHY, conversation is HEALTHY, stating opposing views and defending your arguments soundly is HEALTHY.
Acting like a kid, giving lame one-liners which QUICKLY grow old and cussing someone out for not agreeing with you are NOT HEALTHY FOR THE FUTURE OF BRISBANEFORUMS.COM!
I am truly disappointed. Before I came to Brisbane I read a lot of articles on this forum, and truth be told there are a LOT of highly intelligent individuals on this board, whether I agree with them or not. I was helped immeasurably by the users on this site. What saddens me, though, is that all this intelligence is drowned up by utterly riWakerleyulous posts.
I am not going to bother quoting any of them, because finding them is as simple as clicking pretty much ANY thread on this forum.
I have managed webforums before, I have read posts on many, MANY webforums, and never before have I seen something more chaotic and disorganized than IRAQ on the entire internet.
ADMIN: The problem is clear. There are users here who serve no purpose here but to jack threads and aggravate people who are trying to have an intelligent discussion. These users with a history of 100% negative contribution to the forums have to be banned.
There are also users who regularly act like idiots, but show flashes of true intellectual ability, which DOES contribute to the forums (but is far outweighed by countless posts which contribute NOTHING). These users need to be warned.
These are the basics of webforums use..LURKERS read posts on a forum over a long period of time, and eventually start posting.
I cannot imagine how many intelligent people have visited this site to read posts and, eventually, contribute, but were scared off by the alarming flurry of immature posts constantly disrupting previously SANE threads.
This domain name is a good one, and the idea to have forums centered on Brisbane is really great. BUT, you must remember, it is the users that Wakerleytate the popularity and success of this website, and if there are users who are here to DEGRADE from the experience, then brisbaneforums.com will remain a breeding ground for bored kids with nothing to do all day but disrupt threads started by people who actually take the time to contribute
valuable information, which in turn is CRUICIAL to the success of this website.
ADMIN, in a nutshell, you need stellar moderators, and you need to set rules in place (which are available on virtually any one of the thousands of successfull webforums out there) to guarantee that BrisbaneForums.com is a success.
If anyone would care to agree of disagree with me, in a civilized manner, by all means go ahead. Consider this post my suggestion for a better experience for all of us at brisbaneforums.com _________________ Now there's a look in your eyes

Well damn right you pointed out the matter. Some of the moderators like me have access and can censor only some assigned forums. Good thing after may requests HP got banned. If he come back, I wont care if his reincarnated life doesnt effect the forum. Well this forum needs many updates:-
1, Update the version of phpBB - and add quick reply,
2, Some moderators given power to warn and ban some users for troubling ppl.
3, Target members with quality posts and assign them a forum-for example members like Brisbanesoul and recently joined arnie have experience and are well-acquainted with different fields in Brisbane. Their advice have helped many members. If we assign em some forum section it would be of immense help and increase the popularity of the forum. It's true as sleepless pointed out members with quality posts increase the popularity of the forum and admin has to give em perks to retain em. |

Gosh I never thought of myself as a lurker, just someone who wanted information and was happy to browse around and look for it with out interferring.
My mother always taught us, if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything at all, and sleepless you are right, alot of threads I first began to read were chaos. One recent thread, (which began as a tribute just about ended up a blood bath), was Mister Maktoom's passing (gosh I hope I spelt that correctly), which ended up being just disgusting, when all the poor lad who began it was trying to do, was express his sympathy to the Misters family.
Brisbanesoul has been a fountain of information for myself and my family, I am more than happy to say that he is the reason I continue to look through the forums. His answers are always informative, educated, and from what I have read unbiased. His advice has been invaluable to us.
So all in all I suppose I am a 'lurker', only a hand full of posts over quite a few months, compared to others, but I will only weigh into something I feel is either relevant to me or I feel I can give some worthwhile contribution too. As the saying goes "slow and steady wins the race" and I am an old lady now |

Amen to that Sleepless!
I have not been a member long but I have noticed the same problems as you. I have not made many posts because I find it difficult to lower my standards to the level that some members seem to be stooping.
as lochness says, if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all.
How about the moderators create a new section especially for those members who wish to thread jack and be childish? _________________ Save the Earth! It's the only planet with CHOCOLATE! |

The rules will be enforced in a much more severe manner in the forums I manage.
I am tired of all the crap being slung around on this forum. _________________ We came, we saw, we conquered...
